Johnnie L. Miott wants to live in a world filled with peace, equality, and love for all humankind. A graduate of South Carolina State University, he began his career journey by serving our country as an Army Paratrooper with 56 jumps. Johnnie understood firsthand the pressures that come in being an African American trailblazer. In 1968, Johnnie was the first African American Sanitarian for the City of Pittsburgh. He was the first African American Pharmaceutical Salesman in the Pittsburgh District for 31 years as the top 5% salesman for Upjohn Pharmaceutical Sales Company.

Mr. Miott has been a member of the NAACP for 35 years, as Past Chairman of the Religious Affairs Committee, and currently serving as the first Vice President. Currently serving as the Pittsburgh Branch President. Additionally, he is a Charter Member of the Uptown Hill Kiwanis and past Kiwanis President for four years. Johnnie was the Past Grand Master of the Masons, and a Mason of Golden Gate Lodge for 30 years.

When Johnnie is not aiding his community, you will find this 80+ year young man busy working at Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church a member for fifty years. He has worked on the Stewards Board the entire fifty years and the past forty years as the Pastor’s Steward. A member of the Laymen’s Organization forty years and local president for sixteen years. Lay Conference President eight years for the Allegheny/Scranton District where he was responsible for fifty-one churches. Johnnie has welcomed hundreds into the House of God as an usher for

the past twenty-five years. He served as Sunday Superintendent for twenty years and Chairman of the finance Committee the past forty years. Johnnie is married to Martha and has one son John Christopher.

He serves his family, community, and church with the love of Christ. His leadership and humility continues to touch the lives of all he encounters. His favorite Scriptures reads, “Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me”. John 14:1
