Former Local #66 Member Honored

 

Nate Smith, Sr. formerly of Local Union #66 has been recognized by the National Civil Rights Museum (NCRM) in Memphis Tennessee for his work as a labor activist in Pittsburgh in the 60’s and 70’s; causing the building trades to change hiring practices; bringing about more inclusion and diversity in the building trades membership.  The Pittsburgh Branch of the NAACP, which Nate is a life-time member, submitted his name to receive the “Civil Rights Outstanding Leadership Justice by Action Award” from the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives (NOBLE).  The award ceremony was held July 13, 2010 in Baltimore, MD.  The keynote speaker was Marc Morial, CEO of the National Urban League and Asst. Police Chief Maurita Bryant. Richard Steward received the award in Nate’s absence.

 

 

Pre-apprentice Training Program

 

Renaissance III 2000, Inc., a pre-apprentice program for the building trades will hold a ten (10) week training course at the Community College of Allegheny County (CCAC), North Side Campus in the Fall 2010.  Interested persons should contact Renaissance III 2000, Inc. by phone at 412.642.2020 or by email at emeeksjr@yahoo.com.  There is no cost for the program and is funded by a grant from Allegheny County.

 

 

Free Welding Training Course

 

Renaissance III 2000, Inc. in cooperation with the Steamfitters Local #449 will hold a fall welding training course.  Renaissance III 2000, Inc. has received a grant from Allegheny County to make this course available free of charge to participants.  Anyone interested should contact Renaissance III 2000, Inc at 412.642.2020 or emeeksjr@yahoo.com.
