Welcome to the Official Website of the Pittsburgh Chapter of the NAACP

The Pittsburgh Chapter of the NAACP was organized in 1915 in the home of Attorney William H. Randolph who lived on Webster Avenue. Attorney Randolph became the first President. Jennie Proctor was elected Secretary and L.A. Hamilton Treasurer.

There were three powerful men at that meeting to help with the organization, they were W.E.B. DuBois, James Weldon Johnson and Walter White.

SAY "NO" TO THE East End Plan

We (NAACP AND COMMUNITY PARTNERS) desire to come together in opposition to the merger of Peabody and Westinghouse among other things included in the plan.

The Board is scheduled to vote on the East End Plan on Wednesday, July 21, 2010.   Be there (341 S. Bellefield Sts.) to let the board members know we do not support this plan.

We are planning to convene an informational meeting and gather petitions from the community in opposition to the plan.   The community meeting will take place on Tuesday, July 20, 2010, the day before the board votes.

Save these dates.  Schenley High School (Reizenstein School) 6:30-8:30 pm

The health, well-being and safety of our children are at stake.

THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT AND WE NEED TO TAKE A STAND NOW!
